Food Safety Department Launches Major Crackdown on Sweet Shops in Shimla

Shimla – As the festive season kicks off, the Food Safety Department has swung into action to curb the sale of adulterated sweets in the capital city of Shimla. With the growing demand for sweets during festivals like Diwali, unscrupulous traders often resort to adulteration, and the department is now actively cracking down on such practices.

Teams from the department are conducting continuous inspections in local markets. Sweet shops, hotels, and roadside eateries (dhabas) are being raided under the leadership of Municipal Corporation Assistant Commissioner for Food Safety, Virendra Chauhan. Samples of suspicious sweets have been collected and sent to the laboratory for testing.

According to Dr. Sunil Sharma, District Food Safety Officer of Shimla, where any irregularities were found, the sweets were immediately destroyed to prevent harm to public health.

"The demand for sweets rises during festivals, and some traders do not hesitate to adulterate in order to earn extra profit,"

The Health Department has issued a strict warning that no violators of the rules will be spared. Moreover, wearing of aprons, masks, gloves, and caps has been made mandatory for all shopkeepers to ensure hygiene and safety in food handling.
