Questions Raised on University’s Secular Character, SFI Slams Administration's Silence
Shimla – A religious rangoli made inside the library of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has sparked sharp political and ideological controversy on campus. The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has strongly condemned the act and accused the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of deliberately promoting communalism within the university.
SFI claims that creating a religious-themed rangoli inside an academic space like the library not only disturbs the atmosphere meant for learning, but also violates the secular ethos of the Indian Constitution and Article 28.
“This is a direct attack on the university’s scientific, progressive, and secular framework.”
– SFI Statement
SFI accused ABVP of trying to divide the student community on religious and caste lines, thereby disrupting the cultural and intellectual environment of the campus.
The organization further questioned the silence of the university administration, asking whether it is tacitly supporting an unconstitutional act.
“If strict action is not taken immediately, we will be forced to launch an intense agitation.”
– SFI’s Warning
SFI emphasized that it will not allow the secular dignity and academic independence of the university to be compromised and will resist all communal forces trying to infiltrate HPU.
