Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that following the introduction of robotic surgery at AIIMS Chamyana and Tanda Medical College, the state government will soon start the same facility at IGMC Shimla. Chairing a meeting with health department officials on Wednesday evening, the CM said that 40 beds will be allocated at IGMC for robotic surgeries for Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH) patients. He emphasized that the government aims to provide specialized and modern healthcare facilities by equipping hospitals with state-of-the-art machinery.
He directed that robotic gynecology surgeries be initiated at IGMC, along with several related decisions. Sukhu stated that gynecology specialists from KNH will perform both robotic and elective surgeries at IGMC. The KNH administration will deploy a team of doctors at IGMC to ensure smooth treatment for female patients at both hospitals.
The robotic and elective surgeries will initially be conducted on a three-month trial basis, after which the process will be reviewed and refined.
The Chief Minister also announced that a modern diagnostic lab worth ₹25 crore is being set up at IGMC, and funds have already been released to the college administration. This facility will also benefit gynecology specialists from KNH in treating patients more effectively.
The meeting was attended by Health Secretary M. Sudha Devi, Director of Medical Education Rakesh Sharma, and gynecology experts from Kamla Nehru Hospital.
