Explosion at 33,000 Feet on Hangzhou to Seoul Flight Sparks Emergency Response
Beijing (China) – Panic gripped a flight from Hangzhou to Seoul when a power bank exploded mid-air, setting fire to the overhead luggage bin. The incident occurred when the aircraft was flying at approximately 10 kilometers (33,000 feet) altitude.
As smoke rapidly filled the cabin, passengers were alarmed. However, the flight attendants responded swiftly and bravely, managing to extinguish the fire before the plane could make an emergency landing.
"We calmed passengers and quickly used the fire extinguisher to put out the flames,"
– Flight crew statement
Though the pilot initially requested an emergency landing at Shanghai, the crew's quick action allowed the flight to continue safely.
No injuries were reported, but the event has once again highlighted the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. Experts warn that due to thermal runaway, these batteries can overheat, explode, or catch fire, especially if damaged or exposed to high temperatures.
“Devices like power banks should always be carried in accordance with airline safety guidelines,”
– Aviation safety officer
This incident may prompt tighter regulations and screening of electronic devices on board in future.
It serves as a strong reminder to all passengers: handle electronics carefully and follow all airline safety protocols.
