Chaos at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as Fire Breaks Out in Cargo Village; Firefighters Battling Blaze
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A massive fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in the cargo village section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital city of Dhaka, causing widespread panic and halting all airport operations.
According to the Fire Service, the intensity of the fire is extremely high. 28 fire units, including teams from the Bangladesh Air Force and airport staff, are on-site working to extinguish the flames. Thick smoke has engulfed the area, disrupting airport functionality.
“The situation is serious, but we're doing our best to contain the fire,”
– Fire Service Official
As a result of the fire, four flights were diverted to Chattogram Airport, while all other flight operations have been temporarily suspended. Aircraft have been moved from hangars to safer zones to prevent further damage.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and no injuries or casualties have been reported so far. Airport authorities and national security agencies are on high alert, and an investigation is already underway.
“We will assess the damage only after the fire is completely under control,”
– Airport Management
This incident once again raises serious questions about fire safety protocols at airports, especially in cargo zones where flammable materials are often stored. Stricter scrutiny and safety measures are expected to follow.
